COLORADO COPPER SERIES (1998), BY BOB RANKIN
ACQUIRED FROM THE ARTIST, RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA, AUGUST 1998 (COLORADO COPPER 1) AND JUNE 1999 (COLORADO COPPER 2)
MIXED MEDIA (ACRYLIC, GEL MEDIA) ON HAND-PRESSED NEPALESE PAPER

These two works are really heavily layered with copper-pigmented paint... so much so that they both almost look like pieces of really weathered and beaten copper plate. This effect is enhanced by the presence of a few spots of green (the color of copper oxide). These two works were painted at approximately the same time. As far as I know, Bob has never created any other Copper works. When I acquired the second of the two works, Bob decided to name both works... I had previously referred to Colorado Copper 1 as Untitled.
