SPECTRUM 1 (c. 1997), BY BOB RANKIN
ACQUIRED FROM THE ARTIST, RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA, 1997?
INK AND ACRYLIC ON PAPER
I am a big advocate of monochromality... that is, I really like black and white and grey in art. This work consists solely of monochromes, except for a small stripe of color near the centre of the work that stands out in sharp contrast.

Also, this work is in an unusual aspect ratio... it's very wide compared to its height. When Bob told me the exact size of this work (framed, it's 38" x 19"), I pointed out to him that the work basically was the shape of two squares side-by-side. I think the eye picks up on this fact unconsciously, adding to the appeal of the work. (Hey, it works for me!) Check out Bob's work Ethereal for another example of a work with an unusual aspect ratio.
