WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH 1 (1998), BY BOB RANKIN
ACQUIRED FROM THE ARTIST, RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA, OCTOBER 1998
MIXED MEDIA (ACRYLIC, OILS) ON PAPER
This is one of Bob's representational works. When he was younger, he spent quite a bit of time in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina, not far from Wilmington. This view is across one of the sounds there (probably Masonboro Sound). I'm not sure exactly what the white vertical streaks are in the painting, but I think they're sunlight glinting off the water.

My sister Lee commissioned Bob to create a series of small works similar to this one to give to her bridesmaids as presents. Bob painted one very wide scene and sectioned it into six pieces... so, each of the bridesmaids (and Lee) have pieces of one continuous scene. I thought this was a really neat idea.
