NEW MEXICO VASE (1995), BY JOSH SIMPSON
ACQUIRED FROM KITTRELL/RIFFKIND ART GLASS, DALLAS, TEXAS, AUGUST 1999
HAND-BLOWN GLASS, SIGNATURE ENGRAVED ON THE BASE BY THE ARTIST
When I went to Dallas to attend the 1999 Overseas Brats Reunion (my Dad used to be in the Air Force, so I lived all over the place, including overseas for five years), I spent some time looking through the tourist magazines that were in my hotel room. While browsing through the list of art galleries, I read that a show featuring Josh Simpson's work was underway at Kittrell/Riffkind Art Glass... so naturally I had to go see what was available. This is one of two works that I decided to acquire during my visit.

This is a great example of Josh Simpson's New Mexico glass. I really like the "electrical" patterns within the glass, and there are some interesting bubbles trapped within the structure of the glass. I've never seen another Simpson similar to this one.
