MAGNUM WEIGHT (WOAM 8065) (c. 1999), BY MARK MONSON
ACQUIRED FROM GLASSHOUSE STUDIO, SEATTLE, WASHINGTON, MARCH 1999
HAND-BLOWN GLASS

The Glasshouse Studio is owned and operated by four glassmakers who have their own hot shop right in the store, so you can watch them make works in glass. The so-called "magnum weight" is one of the largest pieces of glass made at Glasshouse Studio... this work is 11" in height and weighs several pounds, even though it is largely hollow.

There are quite a few details visible in this work... I chose this particular piece because I really liked the interplay of the elements within the work, as well as the relatively large amount of transparency in the work.
